Church Services at St John's

Baptisms

How wonderful – you’re thinking about Baptism (or Christening if you prefer) for you or your child! This means that you’re prepared to acknowledge that God really loves you and you want to follow the teachings of Jesus to learn more about this ‘love’ and how it can be shared with our neighbours.

Anyone can be baptised – but just note that your supporters (Godparents) will need to have been baptised before (the clue is in the name really – GOD-parent).

We do have enquiry evenings in the church hall on Tuesday evenings for parents to think about baptism or thanksgivings and to book dates. These start at 7.30pm. Just contact our Parish Administrator to find out what’s involved and the times when we can do this and one of our Team will come along for a brief visit.

The dates for our enquiry evenings for 2017 (which are held in our Church Hall, 14 Kidderminister Rd) are

  • January 17th
  • March 14th
  • May 9th
  • July 18th
  • September 12th
  • November 14th

And we as a church want you to grow and share in that love, so you can share it with others! And don't forget it’s FREE – because God’s love is FREE!

A Note about Baptisms and St. John's School

The Admission policy at St. John's school does not require your child to be baptised, but it does require a family to be regular attenders (a minimum of once a month) at a church or other place of worship for at least 1 year before applying to the school.

Getting Married

wedding1 Congratulations on your forthcoming marriage. Whether you're just dreaming of a church wedding, or well into the planning already, here at St John’s we want to help and support you.

We want to make your wedding personal and memorable for you. St John’s is a special place and there are some things about a wedding at this wonderful church that you just can’t get anywhere

St John’s offers outstanding beauty. This beautiful ancient building is one of the most stunning wedding venues around, being a Grade 1 listed building, with grounds to match. Imagine all the couples who have married in this church, some of whom may well be your family. You can feel you’re becoming part of history itself, the bigger plan, by marrying in the same place as your relatives. We know these sorts of connections can make your day even more special.

Funerals

This is often thought to be the saddest service that the church can provide, and yet it can often be one of celebration and thanksgiving. Led with dignity and sensitivity, aided by favourite music and hymns, with beautiful readings and a rich life-story to tell, the pain of letting go of a loved-one is made so much easier.
