Baptisms

Baptism (or Christenings) are all about celebrating and embracing new life either for you or your child!  For a child it is about welcoming a new life into your family and the world and promising to give that child the best start possible. This means that you’re prepared to acknowledge that God really loves you and you want to follow the teachings of Jesus to learn more about this ‘love’ and how it can be shared with our neighbours.

Anyone can be baptised – but just note that Godparents will need to have been baptised before. The usual requirement is to have a minimum of 3 Godparents.

Baptisms normally happen on the third Sunday of the month at 12.30pm and we have enquiry evenings where you can find out a bit more about baptisms and book a date for a baptism.

Baptism Enquiry Evenings are held in the Church Hall, 14 Kidderminster Rd B61 7JW and start at 7.30pm.

Dates for future Baptism Enquiry Evenings are

July 10th

September 11th

November 13th

Adult Baptism in the Church of England

Adult Baptism (14+)

Getting baptised as an adult is the start of a new journey and we would like to give you the best start to that new journey with God. As an adult you will make choices to follow the way of life with Jesus and be part of his new community, the church.  To help with that start we would encourage you attend church regularly for at least 6 months, participate in a course that looks at the Christian Life and take part in at least one of the many activities of the church. Our hope is that this will help you to ask questions, find answers and experience and understand more of the love that God has for you.

If you are interested in finding out more the contact the vicar

A Note about Baptisms and St. John's School

The Admission policy at St. John's school does not require your child to be baptised, The faith criteria requires a family to be regular attenders (a minimum of once a month) at a church or other place of worship for at least 1 year before applying to the school. You do not have to use the faith criteria to apply to the school. St. John's School is for all members of the local community.
